The Internet. Blogs. Facebook. YouTube. Twitter.

It all seems a bit overwhelming at times. But the reality is that when these tools are used properly, they can accelerate communication and bring us all closer together. It’s giving me the ability to post a Student Of The Week with pics and video as well as a short homework lesson I’ve dubbed the “Martial Arts Minute”.

Now I’m not talking about that chain email that you are supposed to fill out and then send to 20 of your friends for them to fill out. I’m talking about being able to post a ten second video clip of a kid beaming with pride from the first time he gets Form 1 correct. And I can do this nearly instantaneously from my phone. And I HAVE been doing it all week long. . .

Not only is communication hastened, but a record is created. Something to look back on when the lanky eleven year old yellow belt becomes the confident black belt sixteen year old. And then eventually the thirty-two year old professional and father of two.

I stand at the front of my training floor and I teach. I command. But with tools of the internet, a new level of communication is available. A lateral back-and-forth is possible that I believe can lead to a deeper learning experience. And so I’m jumping in with both feet. I encourage you to join me.

To follow Metro Martial Arts & Fitness on Facebook (where the Student Of The Week is the profile pic), go here: www.facebook.com/metromartialarts

To subscribe to our YouTube channel, go here: www.youtube.com/metromartialarts

To follow me on Twitter, go here: www.twitter.com/gymjunkies

And I’m working on converting the home page of www.columbusohiokarate.com to a blog. And when I do, I hope that you will comment on posts and help us all further our communication.
